Treatment For a Double Chin

If your double chin is a result of genetics, toning up the area with exercise may help. It’s not clear if weight loss will help. If that is the case, your doctor may recommend an invasive procedure called Lipolysis, Another name for it is liposculpture. Lipolysis uses liposuction or heat from a laser to melt away fat and contour the skin. In most cases, a local anesthetic is all that’s needed during lipolysis to treat a double chin. Keep in mind, lipolysis only treats fat. Some effects of lipolysis may include swelling, bruising, and pain.

You can also have a mesotherapy, mesotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that delivers small amounts of fat-dissolving compounds through a series of injections. In 2015, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved deoxycholic acid (Kybella), an injectable drug used in mesotherapy. Deoxycholic acid helps your body absorb fats. It may take 20 or more injections of deoxycholic acid per treatment to treat a double chin. You can have up to six treatments total and it is a must that you wait at least one month between treatments. A deoxycholic acid may cause serious nerve damage if injected improperly. Only a dermatologist or a doctor with plastic surgery experience who is knowledgeable about the drug should administer these injections. Potential side effects of deoxycholic acid and other mesotherapy injectables include the following – swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and redness.

Another alternative and the best way to get rid of extra fat anywhere on your body is by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. When trying to get rid of a double chin, be patient.  As Rome was not built in a day. Depending on how many chins you have, it may take a few months before it’s less noticeable. Then you can call yourself a human and not a guppie.

Maintaining a healthy weight will help keep a double chin, a triple chin or a stack of chins in check. This also has added benefits because it reduces your overall risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, heart disease, certain cancers and stroke. It is a no-brainer and an eye-opener.

Unless you are sure that your double chin was caused by crappy genetics, give weight loss, cardio exercise, and chin exercises a chance before thinking about having an invasive procedure. Always, before starting a diet and exercise program, talk with your doctor. They will address any health concerns you may have and help you plan healthy weight loss goals. Keep this in mind as Denzel Washington said “We don’t plan to fail, we fail to plan”. Your doctor may also recommend a nutrition plan that fits your lifestyle. However, If diet and exercise don’t help your double chin, and I believe it will, depends on how bad you want it. Then and only then will I suggest you ask your doctor if an invasive procedure is an option for you.

Diet and Nutrition

If your double chin is due to weight gain, losing weight may make it smaller or get rid of it. The best way to lose weight is to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Here are suggestions for healthy eating habits. Eat four servings of vegetables daily. Eat three servings of fruits daily. Replace refined grains with whole grains. Avoid processed foods. Eat lean protein, such as poultry and fish. Eat healthy fats, such as olive oil, avocados, and nuts. Avoid fried foods. Eat low-fat dairy products. Reduce your sugar intake. Practice portion control. As the number drops on your scale, your face may get thinner. To boost weight loss, the Mayo Clinic recommends you do moderate physical activity up to 300 minutes per week, or about 45 minutes daily. They also recommend doing strength training twice a week. All intense physical activity, such as mowing the lawn, gardening, and carrying groceries, counts toward this weekly goal. Some of these activities do target the biceps, triceps, back, and shoulders.

How I Did it

To be honest with you, I did have a double chin, borderline human and fish. However, I was determined not to let it get out of control and basically, get rid of it. So that is what I did. I performed several facial exercises daily. Two or three times a day. I did eat what I wanted, however, I ate in moderation, and did cardio. All you need to do is basically, watch what you eat, reduce your calorie intake and perform the daily facial exercise, literally daily. They can be done anytime throughout the day. So you really don’t have an excuse. Do exercise your whole body in conjunction with your stacks, your chins, that is.
